Leisa earned her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the College of Charleston, where her passion for helping families first began to take shape. She initially worked as a case manager in a domestic violence shelter, gaining invaluable firsthand experience in crisis intervention. This led her to pursue a law degree at the University of Miami. During her first year, she interned with the 11th Circuit's Domestic Violence Division, which sparked a deep interest in the intersection of law and family dynamics.
Innovative Approach to Family Therapy and Law
After taking a leave of absence from law school to explore other career alternatives, Leisa discovered a holistic and systemic approach to family well-being through Marriage and Family Therapy. She subsequently earned a Master's Degree in Family Therapy and became the Director of Parenting and Juvenile Programs at a local forensic counseling agency. In this role, she served as an expert witness, court-appointed evaluator, and therapist, deeply involving herself in the family, dependency, and domestic violence court systems.
Return to Law and Founding of BTAP
Leisa returned to law school with a renewed vision, completing her degree and writing a grant to fund the Broward Teen Advocacy Project (BTAP) through Coast to Coast Legal Aid. As the head of BTAP, she litigated and settled hundreds of family law and domestic violence cases, significantly impacting the lives of many families.

In 2010, after the successful conclusion of BTAP's funding, Leisa founded Family Matters Law Group, P.A. Her firm focuses exclusively on family law, where she serves as a Guardian Ad Litem, mediator, and a fierce advocate for her clients.
